"It seems
that Saudi Arabia was concerned from the bad publicity blocking
the site would bring them at the very same time that they are
involved with a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in the
United States who's aim is to improve the image of Saudi
Arabia..."
As reported to you on GayMiddleEast.com,
on June 16, 2003 the Internet Services Unit of the Saudi Arabian
government blocked entrance to www.gaymiddleeast.com from computers
in Saudi Arabia.
Readers in the
Kingdom who attempted entering the website reported to us that the
following message appeared on their screens when trying to access
GME: "Access to the requested URL is not allowed!"
The management of
GayMiddleEast.com sent a number e mails and faxes to the Saudi
Arabian authorities respectfully requesting them to unblock entrance
to the site. We never received any replies from them.
Two days ago, we
started to get e mails from loyal readers in Saudi Arabia happily
telling us that they were once again able to access the website. A
quick check shows us that the Internet Services Unit in Saudi Arabia
has unblocked access to GayMiddleEast.com.
A.S. Getenio,
Manager of GayMiddleEast.com reports, "It seems that Saudi Arabia
was concerned from the bad publicity blocking the site would bring
them at the very same time that they are involved with a
multi-million dollar advertising campaign in the United States who's
aim is to improve the image of Saudi Arabia. The ad campaign is
designed to portray the Kingdom as a peace loving, modern and
enlightened state. We at GME hope that the Saudi authorities will
leave the site unblocked and accessible to our readers, and that
this is not a temporary move that will be reversed as soon as their
ad campaign is over."
GayMiddleEast.com
is happy to provide once again information and services to our
readers in Saudi Arabia.
