Not long from
now, a pride parade will embark on a beautiful journey.
Starting in Damascus, Syria, G.L.B.T. marchers will begin
the parade, proceeding south towards the port city of Tyre,
Lebanon. Another group of marchers, gathering in Beirut,
Lebanon will start marching south along the Mediterranean.
The two groups, waiving rainbow flags and growing in number
as they go will converge and march south along the coast.
From the white limestone cliffs at Naqoura/Rosh HaNikra,
they declare their peaceful intentions - and cross into
Israel. In Haifa, they are joined by an Israeli contingent
and all march together to Tel Aviv. Together, the parade,
getting larger and more colorful with each kilometer climbs
the hills to Jerusalem, the Holy city for Christians, Jews,
Muslims, Israelis and Palestinians alike. Simultaneously,
from Cairo a group of paraders have crossed the Sinai and
are making their way towards Jerusalem. Friends from Gaza
join them as they proceed. Palestinians from as far north as
Jenin and as far south as Hebron meet us in Jerusalem.
Together, we all march eastwards, crossing the Jordan River.
We are met by our Jordanian brothers and sisters. Together
we proceed south, passing Mount Nebo and the pink city of
Petra towards our final destination - Wadi Rum. We will be
met by G.L.B.T.'s from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the
Gulf.
Wadi Rum, Lawrence's headquarters in the majestic Jordanian
desert will be the site of our celebration of life. What a
more suitable location for a celebration of love and
brotherhood could there be than the hauntingly beautiful
Wadi Rum, a grand marvel of God's creation against which the
measure of humankind seems so small. Our very being, our
determination, the courage of our convictions and the
strength in our numbers will show the world that the middle
east, the cradle of civilization believes in peace, love,
and brotherhood.
All men and women were born to love. Love is a wonderful
thing, we all possess it and should share it.
So don’t let them teach you how to hate. Simply do the most
true and basic thing.
“…You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one…” (John Lennon) |
