TOURISM - Lebanon |
|
|
|
How to get there |
|
As of now (2003),
there are no direct flights from North America to Lebanon. Most
European capitals do have daily flights to Beirut. If you’re
already in the Middle East, there are two flights a day between
Amman and Beirut. There are also daily flights and ferries from
Cyprus, and well as from Cairo. From Amman Jordan there are also
sharing taxis that leave a few times per day. The drive is about 5
hours. However you must have a Syrian visa in order to take this
land route. (A visa to Syria must be obtained at the Syrian
embassy/consulate in the country you reside in; you cannot
obtain it while traveling through other countries –
only at home.) |

Major tourist sites |
|
BEIRUT 2003 is a
bustling, busy ,noisy, cosmopolitan city that should be a must on
every person’s travel list. Many areas of Beirut are totally
rebuilt in the Beirut-Parisian style of the earth 20th
century. The Solidaire area, under the guidance of Rafik Hariri, is
an example of how the splendor of a city can be recaptured, even
after the most horrible of circumstances. There are still many
parts of Beirut that show the scars of the civil war. However, this
is one city that’s on the move and headed towards a bright future.
Beirut conveys a sense of life and energy that is so apparent.
Considering what this city has gone thru, it really has the right to
call itself “the city that would not die.” There are a vast number
of sites to see – Roman, Byzantine, Crusader, Ottoman, Crusader, the
National Museum and the famous American University of Beirut. The
eateries of Beirut can compete with the finest of Europe – but let
us not ignore the Middle Eastern falafel and shwarma stands that dot
the city.
